Privacy Policy

RoamTally is a tool for splitting the cost of group trips, built to collect as little about you as possible — you don't even need an account to use it. This policy explains what's stored, why, and the choices you have.

What's collected

Trip data. The people, expenses, splits, and payments you enter. Names are the only personal detail a trip needs — a name, not an email, phone number, or anything else. You can even use nicknames and aliases.
Your email — only if you choose to add it. You can optionally attach an email address to get a dashboard listing your trips. That's the only time an email is stored, and trips work fully without one.
Basic technical data. Like most websites, standard request information (such as IP address) is processed to keep the service running securely and to prevent abuse.
Anonymous usage statistics. Which pages get visited and which features get used, with no cookies and nothing you've typed into a trip. See Analytics below.

What isn't collected

RoamTally doesn't ask for or store payment card numbers, bank details, or any financial account information. RoamTally is free, so there is nothing to pay and no payment details to collect — and it doesn't hold or move money either. It only calculates who owes whom.

How your information is used

To run your trips and calculate settle-up.
To show your trip dashboard and send a sign-in link, if you've added your email.
To send a heads-up before an inactive trip is removed, if an email is attached.
To keep the service secure, reliable, and free of abuse.

Your information is never sold.

Analytics

RoamTally uses Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to see roughly how many people visit and which features get used. It sets no cookies and doesn't track you across other sites. Trip and report links have their secret codes stripped out before anything is sent, and nothing you type into a trip — names, amounts, descriptions — is ever included.

Sharing & access

A trip is reachable by anyone who has its link (and its password, if one is set). That's how sharing works — only send the link to people who should have access. Behind the scenes, RoamTally relies on trusted infrastructure, email, and analytics providers to operate the service; they only process data on RoamTally's behalf.

How long data is kept

Trips remain available while they're in use. A trip that goes untouched for 12 months may be deleted; if an email is attached, a warning is sent first. You can delete a trip yourself at any time — deletion hides it immediately, with a short recovery window before it's removed for good.
